Eurovision Young Musicians is now the upcoming event in the Eurovision family, a classical music event that has been held bi-annually for decades. We reached out to the organiser of the event to ask some questions regarding the broadcast and participating countries in this years’ edition.
International broadcast
The organiser of the 2024 Eurovision Young Musicians event has confirmed to us there will be NO international broadcast this year. The EBU did provide an international broadcast on their website and later on YouTube but this has not happened since 2018.
The only way to watch the event will be through the official participating broadcasters’ official channels.
Participating countries / Exclusion of Slovenia
Slovenia stated that they intended to participate in the competition back in June 2023 and appeared on a list shared by Swiss broadcaster SRF in February. However, it was later reported that competition had been limited to eleven countries (10 + host) and Slovenia did not appear on the final list of participants.
Amelie Rossignol, the organiser of the event, confirmed to us that as with all other Eurovision events all active members of the EBU were invited to participate. They stated that the changing of the rules to make the performances shorter was done to ensure as many broadcasters could participate as possible and told us that no broadcaster was turned down.
It is unclear what eventually led to the Slovenian broadcaster not taking part.
Rule Changes
As already mentioned to accommodate as many countries as possible this year the maximum length for the performance has been limited to 6 minutes 30 seconds. This is down from 8 minutes in 2022.
