Following the news that the BBC had withdrawn from the Junior Eurovision Song Contest meaning that the United Kingdom is unlikely to take part this year, this opened up the possibility of regional broadcasters taking part as Wales did up until 2019.
Eurofestivales contacted S4C, the Welsh-language broadcaster, who confirmed to them that they will not be returning to the competition this year. Their best result at the competition came in 2019 when they finished 18th with “Calon yn Curo” by Erin Mai.
Speaking to the same website, the Scottish broadcaster BBC Alba also ruled out debuting at the competition this year. BBC Alba previously submitted a Scottish entry to Eurovision Choir in 2019.
These recent reveals mean that the likelihood of any of the UK nations or the country itself will take part although there are two EBU members based in Scotland that could still theoretically take part (BBC Scotland and STV), as well as two national broadcasters that could theoretically enter for the entirety of the United Kingdom those being ITV, who participated in Junior Eurovision during the UK’s first run in the show from 2003 until 2005, or Channel 4. None of these broadcasters have yet commented on potential participation in the event.
