The Icelandic national broadcaster RÚV is still yet to decide whether the country will compete in Malmö this May.
The broadcaster is currently in the process of deciding whether to continue with their participation, with the deadline looming they will have to make a final decision before Monday. The Icelandic newspaper Vísir asked the broadcaster to comment on the discussion however, they only confirmed that discussions were ongoing.
Earlier in the year the Icelandic broadcaster said that their participation would depend on discussions held between the broadcaster and the winner of Söngvakeppin. The singer who went on to win the selection, Hera Björk, has stated that she would participate.
The reasoning behind Iceland’s opting to delay confirming their participation is related to the ongoing conflict in Gaza, over five hundred of the country’s musicians signed a petition urging the broadcaster to withdraw if Israel was able to continue their participation. Ynet reported that Israel’s participation had been approved and this was later confirmed in an X (formerly Twitter) post by Israeli broadcaster KAN.
