Finnish broadcaster, YLE, has announced that One Morning Left have been disqualified from their national selection show following a “rule violation”.
The group of contestants in YLE’s Contest for New Music UMK is shrinking by one: the band One Morning Left will no longer continue in the competition.
Statement from Yle.
Yle has excluded the band from the competition due to a rule violation.
Yle and One Morning Left have discussed the matter and agree on the basis for the decision.
While the broadcaster did not go into full details over the disqualification it has since been clarified by the band that the removal of the band relates to serious allegations made against one of its members.
Following the disqualification it has also been confirmed that One Morning Left are disbanding.
It has come to our attention that serious accusations have been made anonymously against a member of our band on social media. According to the accusations, Mika Lahti allegedly communicated with a person possibly a minor in the IRC-Galleria between 2007 and 2010, knowingly or unknowingly.
One Morning Left on Instagram (in Finnish).
The accusations have come as a complete surprise to the members of the band, UMK, Yle and all other parties and companies that worked together with the band. The accusations are not aimed at other current members of the band, but the accusations unequivocally concern Mika Lahte.
Other members of the band: Leevi, Juuso, Miska and Dennis have left the band immediately and have expressed their own great shock at the accusations. The band’s other members and other collaborators completely distance themselves from the allegations. The accusations presented do not correspond in any way to the values of the other members of the band or the bands collaborators.
In light of this information, One Morning Left will not continue in UMK but will withdraw on this date. At the same time all the bands activities will be stopped and the underlying One Morning Left limited company will be liquidated immediately.
Mika Lahti denies the accusations. He is also ready to file a criminal complain for baselss claims.
We are sorry for the inconvenience caused to UMK, other artists, Yle, the public, the band’s fans and partners. The other band members would never have joined the band if they had known about the possible inappropriate behaviour.
We ask that the media do not contact the band’s members or partners regarding this matter. We ask for peace of mind for the working group of [UMK].
We will not comment further on this matter.
