Moldovan broadcaster TRM has announced the countries late decision to withdraw from Eurovision 2025.
The director of TRM, Corneliu Durnescu, said the decision was made due to a “decrease in public interest and the overall quality of the pieces and artistic performances”.
While not participating the broadcaster intends to continue to broadcast all three shows.
Martin Osterdahl, executive supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest, has expressed regret over TRM’s withdrawal.
TRM has expressed an interest in returning to the competition next year however, this withdrawal brings an end to a two-decade participation of the country at the contest.
As per EBU rules the late withdrawal will also see the broadcaster fined by the EBU – in the past, this has been as much as 150% of their participation fee if the withdrawal was considered extremely late.
